Friends Book Club
Members of Friends Book Club meet every other month and enjoy thought-provoking, in-depth discussions on works from Caribbean authors. Our selections reflect the history, mystery and truth of the Caribbean experience. 

On December 10, 2010, our membership and friends welcomed our 2010 author-in-residence Marie-Elena John, author of the critically acclaimed novel Unburnable.  Ms. John was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, her novel was also an Essence Choice, and she was a Finalist for the Hurston-Wright 2007 Legacy Award.

2009 Author In Residence - Dr. H. Akia Gore
Dr. Gore is the author of the book Garrote : The Illusion of Social Equality and Political Justice in the United States Virgin Islands.  This book is an annotated exposition on the plight of non-U.S. Eastern Caribbean nationals domiciled in the United States Virgin Islands.

On Friday, December 5, 2008, FOAPL hosted its 2nd annual Meet The Author Series™, featuring Journeycakes:  Memories With My Antiguan Mama, by Monica Matthew. 



2007 Author In Residence - Joanne Hillhouse
Joanne C. Hillhouse was our Author In Residence for our inaugural Meet The Author Series.  Joanne read selections from her book Dancing Nude In The Moonlight, and engaged in a spirited discussion with club members and guests.  Joanne C. Hillhouse is also the author of The Boy From Willough Bend,  and has published in anthologies in the U.S., Africa, and the Caribbean.
